WELCOME AND NOTICES
CALL TO WORSHIP:
God, you call us to journey faithfully,
as you called the Israelite people long ago.
God, you ask us to both hear and be true to your Word,
as you have asked your people through the ages.
God, you call us to follow Jesus and serve the Gospel in your world,
In the same way Jesus called the disciples
and the early Church followers of The Way.
HYMN: Lord of All Being (WOV 626)
Lord of all being, throned afar,
thy glory flames from sun and star;
centre and light of every sphere,
yet to each loving heart how near.
Sun of our life, thy quickening ray
sheds on our path the glow of day;
star of our hope, thy softened light
cheers the long watches of the night.
Lord of all life, below, above,
whose light is truth, whose warmth is love,
before thy ever-blazing throne
we ask no lustre of our own.
Grant us thy truth to make us free,
and kindling hearts that burn for thee,
till all thy living altars claim
one holy light, one heavenly flame. C/A

STORY-TIME
THOUGHTS FROM THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY
INTRODUCTION TO THE READING
READING: Exodus 32: 1-14 Bob Kayes
HYMN: Spirit, Spirit of Gentleness
Spirit, Spirit of gentleness,
blow through the wilderness
calling and free.
Spirit, Spirit of restlessness,
stir me from placidness,
wind, wind on the sea.
You moved on the waters,
you called to the deep,
then you coaxed up the mountains
from the valleys of sleep;
and over the ages you called to each thing,
wake from your slumbers
and rise on your wings.
You swept through the desert,
you stung with the sand,
and you goaded your people
with a law and a land; and when they were blinded
with their idols and lies,
then you spoke through your prophets
to open their eyes. © JK Manley (NJS)
REFLECTION: This golden calf thing
A TIME OF QUIET
HYMN: Bless Now, O God the Journey (Tune: WOV 389)
Bless now, O God, the journey that all your people make,
the path through noise and silence, the way of give and take.
The trail is found in desert and winds the mountain round,
then leads beside still waters, the road where faith is found.
Bless sojourners and pilgrims who share this winding way,
whose hope burns through the terrors, whose love sustains the day.
We yearn for holy freedom while often we are bound.
Together we are seeking the road where faith is found.
Divine Eternal Lover, you meet us on the road.
We wait for lands of promise where milk and honey flow.
But waiting not for places, you meet us all around.
Our covenant is written on roads, as faith is found. © Sylvia Dunstan (VU)
THE OFFERING: God, we do not offer money alone.
Money is a universal way of helping, but it only goes so far.
God, we do not offer our time alone.
Time is a precious commodity, but it is not enough.
God, we do not offer our talent alone.
Talent is a way of giving personal gifts, but our abilities are finite.
God, we offer money, time, and talent.
O God, this is what we offer for your blessing, that we may
use all three wisely and carefully in your service. Amen.
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
HYMN: O Breath of Life (WOV 322)
O Breath of life, come sweeping through us,
revive your church with life and power;
O Breath of life, come cleanse, renew us,
and fit your church to meet this hour.
O Wind of God, come bend us, break us
till humbly we confess our need;
then in your tenderness remake us,
revive, restore – for this we plead.
O Breath of love, come breathe within us,
renewing thought and will and heart;
come, love of Christ, afresh to win us,
revive your church in every part. C/A
