Sunday 18th October 2015 9am

We are here to worship our heavenly Father

The love of God welcomes us

The grace of Christ awaits us

The joy of the spirit enfolds us

Don’t come as slaves, come as the truly free

Don’ come as petitioners, come as those who are already heard

Don’t come as interlopers, come as invited guests

Don’t come as outsiders, come as much wanted children

The love of God emboldens us

The grace of Christ redeems us

The joy of the spirit uplifts us

Come as the joyful, come as the eager, come as the thankful

come as the recipients of amazing grace

The love of God overflows our hearts

The grace of Christ liberates our spirits

The joy of the Spirit sings in our minds

HYMN: In Heavenly Love Abiding

In heavenly love abiding, no change my heart shall fear;

and safe is such confiding, for nothing changes here:

the storm may roar without me, my heart may low be laid;

But God is round about me, and can I be dismayed?

Wherever he may guide me no want shall turn me back,

my shepherd is beside me and nothing can I lack:

his wisdom ever waketh, his sight is never dim,

he knows the way he taketh and I will walk with him.

Green pastures are before me, which yet I have not seen;

bright skies will soon be o’er me where the dark clouds have been:

my hope I cannot measure, my path to life is free;

my Saviour has my treasure, and he will walk with me.

Anna Laetitia Waring (WOV504)

HYMN: I’ve got rhythm for Jesus

I’ve got a rhythm for Jesus, I’ve got a rhythm for him.

I’ve got a rhythm for Jesus, I’ve got a rhythm for him.

Sweet Spirit, make my life to shine with the glory of the Lord.

O Spirit, make my face to glow with the joy that I feel,

for I know that he’s real.

I’ve got a rhythm for Jesus, I’ve got a rhythm for him.

I’ve got a rhythm for Jesus, I’ve got a rhythm for him.

I’ve got a rhythm for him. I’ve got a rhythm for him. ©Heather Campbell

SERMON:  The mind of Christ

HYMN: Jesus Shall Reign Where’er the Sun

Jesus shall reign where’er the sun does his successive journeys run;

His kingdom stretch from shore to shore,

till moons shall wax and wane no more.

For him shall endless prayer be made,

and praises throng to crown his head; his name like sweet perfume shall rise with every morning sacrifice.

People and realms of every tongue

dwell on his love with sweetest song; and infant voices shall proclaim their early blessings on his name.

Blessings abound where’er he reigns:

the prisoner leaps to lose his chains: the weary find eternal rest:

And all the sons of want are blest.

Where he displays his healing power,

death and the curse are known no more;

in him the tribes of Adam boast more blessings than their father lost.

Let every creature rise and bring peculiar honours to our King,

angels descend with songs again, and earth repeat the long amen.                                                                          Isaac Watts (WOV136)

Bless these gifts, O God, and bless us as we offer ourselves to serve you in different ways and to praise you in in many voices.

Send your Spirit upon us, so that when we speak the words of your love, people will hear and understand, as they did on that Pentecost day so long ago.

This we pray in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord Amen

HYMN: To God Be the Glory

To God be the glory, great things he has done!

So loved he the world that he gave us his Son,

Who yielded his life an atonement for sin

And opened the life-gate that all may go in.

Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Let the earth hear his voice!

Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Let the people rejoice!

O come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,

And give him the glory! Great things he has done!

O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,

To every believer the promise of God!

And every offender who truly believes,

That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

Great things he has taught us, great things he has done,

And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;

But purer, and higher, and greater will be

Our wonder, our rapture, when Jesus we see.          F J van Alstyne (WOV85)

HYMN: Soldiers of Christ Arise

Soldiers of Christ, arise, and put your armour on,

strong in the strength which God supplies through his eternal Son;

strong in the Lord of Hosts, and in his mighty power,

who in the strength of Jesus trusts is more than conqueror.

Stand then in his great might, with all his strength endued;

but take, to arm you for the fight, the panoply of God;

that, having all things done, and all your conflicts passed,

you may o’ercome through Christ alone, and stand entire at last.

Stand then against your foes, in close and firm array;

legions of wily fiends oppose throughout the evil day:

but meet the sons of night, and mock their vain design,

armed in the arms of heavenly light, of righteousness divine.

Leave no unguarded place, no weakness of the soul;

take every virtue, every grace, and fortify the whole:

in him for ever joined, to battle all proceed;

but arm yourselves with all the mind that was in Christ, your Head.

Charles Wesley (WOV481)

God is a God who takes infinite risks with people like us
