MOVIE NIGHT: What We Did on our Holiday (starring Billy Connolly) –

An hilarious journey through an unforgettable family holiday as a couple attempts to keep their impending divorce secret from their extended family. Doug and Abi and their three kids travel to the Scottish Highlands for Doug’s father Gordie’s birthday party where its soon clear that when it comes to keeping their divorce under wraps their children are their biggest liability. From nine year old Lottie’s notebook to keep track of the lies so she remembers which one to tell, to four year old Jess’s perverse attachment to a brick named Norman, for their parents a week has never seemed such a long time. But it’s middle child Mickey and his Granddad’s shared passion for Vikings which gives rise to the most far reaching and unexpected consequences. When a day at the beach turns to tragedy, the children take matters into their own hands. ‘You’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you’ll probably want to book a holiday to the Highlands one day soon’. Saturday 25th September 5.15pm in the Parish Lounge. BYO takeaway tea. Koha appreciated. Contact Irene 332 7306 for more information.

The Hope Seminar: An event from A Rocha—Sunday 19 September (Alert levels permitting!!) This year’s The Hope Seminar will be held at the Transitional Cathedral in Christchurch, and will include Choral Evensong (which is very beautiful) as well as having an inspiring line-up of speakers in the evening.
The theme is ‘Shalom: Climate Change and Wellbeing’: Anxiety about the future is an epidemic, and the need for the peace of Christ is vital. The Hope Seminar will explore the human impacts of climate change from a faith perspective.

The Alpine Presbytery Council has accepted the resignation of Rev. Barry Ayers as Moderator.  This takes effect in early October after General Assembly. Council is presently preparing a proposal for Presbytery’s endorsement of an acting Moderator.  Nominations for a new Alpine Presbytery Moderator will be sought and voted on later in the year, as is our usual practice, and the new person will be inducted at the Gathering currently scheduled for March 2022.

General Assembly 2021 will now be held online due to the disruption caused by the Covid-19 Delta variant. Details of the online Assembly will be advised to the Church within the next week by the Assembly Business Workgroup, including the date, length and business of the Assembly.

Biscuits for General Assembly: Because of the changes to GA21, the lovely biscuits that you have all kindly promised will no longer be required. I am very grateful for your positive responses to my request and thank you all very much indeed. Lesley Compton.
