Sunday 28th May 2017 10am

WHILE OUR CHURCH BUILDING IS REPAIRED WE ARE MEETING EACH SUNDAY AT THE MINERAL & LAPIDARY CLUB 11O WALTHAM RD (NEXT TO WALTHAM SCHOOL) AT 10AM.

WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO WELCOME YOU.

A very warm welcome to all who worship with us this morning. Please stay for morning tea after the service. Thank you to Rev Lyndsey McKay for leading today’s worship.

Affirmation of Faith (together):

I celebrate the church of Jesus Christ, where two or three or thousands can gather together in Christ’s name and touch this world with the amazing good news that somebody cares, that God joins us in community so that someday this world will be loved to wholeness.

I celebrate the church, where you and I and all Christ’s disciples are called upon to follow even when it costs us something; something precious.

I celebrate the church where every child of God is hailed as unique and valuable.

I celebrate injustices righted; where there is an awakening to humanity’s suffering; the pain alleviated, the scars erased.

I celebrate this way of life that takes me and mine from the centre of things and focuses on ours and theirs.

I celebrate that love lives among us, that God’s spirit pervades our being, our community.

I celebrate the unconditional love of Christ – the cross. That Christ hung there loving the unlovable.

For God so loved the world… that God should love us, surely that’s a cause of great joy. Surely we should celebrate.                ©Ann Weems Reaching for Rainbows

Followers, devotees, students, learners….

One who receives instruction from another….

One who follows a particular pathway….

Coming Together as Part of God’s Family

Call to Worship:

Children of God, it’s time to take off your shoes,

Let go of the anxieties and worries, and know the Presence is with us.

We come to be still for a moment, to gather in holy time and space.

Let the healing waters wash your heart.

Take a deep breath and know we are sustained by Grace.

We come to know again that we belong,

We are treasured by God,

We are called to be disciples of Jesus and people of the Way.

Some questions…

·        How do you nurture your calling to be a disciple of Jesus?  Do you rely on what you learned long ago, or would you say you are a learning disciple?  What is something that you feel you are currently learning from Jesus?

·        How do you make time to sit around the figurative charcoal fire with other Jesus disciples and help mentor and feed each other?

·        Are you aware of another presence in your life?  Talk about that sense with someone else.

·        How do you decide what is right and which road to take?  Where does Jesus fit into that?

“That we ask the Rev Dugald Wilson to a 2/3rd time intentional ministry for a period of two years and that we recommend that the leadership and congregation of St Martin’s commits itself to a two year conversation to discern more clearly the presence of God in our midst, who God calls us to be as a Christian community and how we might nurture our bonds of community; and thirdly how we connect and build bridges to make known God’s love to others around us.”

Coming Together as Part of God’s Family

Welcome and Notices:

Call to Worship:

Sometimes believing, sometimes doubting

we gather together as friends of Jesus.

Sometimes weeping, sometimes laughing

we gather together as friends of Jesus.

Sometimes afraid, sometimes joyful

we gather together as friends of Jesus.

Whatever our journey has been here we are welcome as we

gather together as friends of Jesus.

Exercises and Questions to help you put into practice today’s story……

Was there something in today’s story that challenged, encouraged, warmed, or surprised you?  Ponder this…. Talk about it with someone who also heard the story.

How do you respond to the idea that the community of the risen Christ is for scarred and scared people?

Draw close to Thomas.  You can read about him in John 11:16, 14:5, 20:24, 21:2.  He has been given the name doubting Thomas.  I think he has been wrongly vilified and call him courageous.  Do you think it is wrong to question?   How do you sense Jesus responded to him?

We often hide our faith behind ‘locked doors’.  See if sometime this week you can unlock the door and talk openly with another about your faith and ‘new life’ you have found in Jesus.  Don’t be afraid to admit you have questions and you haven’t got all the answers….
