Followers, devotees, students, learners….

One who receives instruction from another….

One who follows a particular pathway….

Coming Together as Part of God’s Family

Call to Worship:

Children of God, it’s time to take off your shoes,

Let go of the anxieties and worries, and know the Presence is with us.

We come to be still for a moment, to gather in holy time and space.

Let the healing waters wash your heart.

Take a deep breath and know we are sustained by Grace.

We come to know again that we belong,

We are treasured by God,

We are called to be disciples of Jesus and people of the Way.

Some questions…

·        How do you nurture your calling to be a disciple of Jesus?  Do you rely on what you learned long ago, or would you say you are a learning disciple?  What is something that you feel you are currently learning from Jesus?

·        How do you make time to sit around the figurative charcoal fire with other Jesus disciples and help mentor and feed each other?

·        Are you aware of another presence in your life?  Talk about that sense with someone else.

·        How do you decide what is right and which road to take?  Where does Jesus fit into that?

Session has called a Special Congregational Meeting on Sunday 11th June at 11.15am where the following motion from the Ministry Settlement Board will be put:

“That we ask the Rev Dugald Wilson to a 2/3rd time intentional ministry for a period of two years and that we recommend that the leadership and congregation of St Martin’s commits itself to a two year conversation to discern more clearly the presence of God in our midst, who God calls us to be as a Christian community and how we might nurture our bonds of community; and thirdly how we connect and build bridges to make known God’s love to others around us.”

Coming Together as Part of God’s Family

Welcome and Notices:

Call to Worship:

Sometimes believing, sometimes doubting

we gather together as friends of Jesus.

Sometimes weeping, sometimes laughing

we gather together as friends of Jesus.

Sometimes afraid, sometimes joyful

we gather together as friends of Jesus.

Whatever our journey has been here we are welcome as we

gather together as friends of Jesus.

Exercises and Questions to help you put into practice today’s story……

Was there something in today’s story that challenged, encouraged, warmed, or surprised you?  Ponder this…. Talk about it with someone who also heard the story.

How do you respond to the idea that the community of the risen Christ is for scarred and scared people?

Draw close to Thomas.  You can read about him in John 11:16, 14:5, 20:24, 21:2.  He has been given the name doubting Thomas.  I think he has been wrongly vilified and call him courageous.  Do you think it is wrong to question?   How do you sense Jesus responded to him?

We often hide our faith behind ‘locked doors’.  See if sometime this week you can unlock the door and talk openly with another about your faith and ‘new life’ you have found in Jesus.  Don’t be afraid to admit you have questions and you haven’t got all the answers….

Call to Worship:

What can we do with a 33 year old man who won’t let the story end?

Easter challenges us because we’re the people who can’t believe that God loves us so much.

Easter says, no matter how prodigal, we can come home again.

Let’s celebrate that amazing grace that in Christ’s resurrection we are still loved even at our most outrageous.

The Easter party goes on!

Jesus told them – ‘Because you have seen me, you have believed, blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.’ (John 20:29)
