Celebrating Te Whare Roopu o Oteropo

Waltham Community Cottage

We are a community of people who are bearers of hope.

A hope that we might work together in true community.

A hope that we might share the unconditional love of Christ with people along the way. A hope that we might make a difference in our community outside our doors, alleviating the struggle for some within their daily lives.

May the light of Christ lead us on the way.

NEXT SUNDAY….. we will be celebrating All Saints Sunday.  To do this there will be an opportunity in our service to light a candle in memory of those we remember in our lives who have died.

All Saints or All Hallows is the day after Hallow Evening or Halloween.  In the northern hemisphere where most of our church customs originate people are entering the season of darkness following the harvest.  It was considered a time when the world of the departed and heaven drew near.  Many customs grew up around seeking wisdom or protection from the departed and bonfires (lit. bone fires) were lit to ward off evil influences.  One of the influences of the Reformation was to cut influences with the dead, and so today we frown upon many customs from the past.  However one helpful tradition is to remember those who go before us.  For some there will be great thankfulness, for others there may still be raw grief, and yet for others painful memories.  We will gather these in a short act of remembrance at the conclusion of worship.

WEDNESDAY WALKERS 26th October: Meet 9.30amin Ilam Rd outside the Uni Staff Club for a walk around the Ilam Gardens.Coffee venue TBC. All are welcome. Judith 3321577.

NEW TEMPORARY OFFICE……The Session and Managers have agreed to renovate the smaller relocatable building on the church site at 43 St Martins Rd and install the building closer to the road for use as our temporary church office.  As part of the renovation we plan to install an office for our church administrator and the minister, tea/coffee making facilities, and a toilet. This will give a living presence on the church site.   We will try and use as much voluntary labour as possible for this project and complete it by Christmas.
