Sunday 26th June 2016 Pentecost 6 9am

WELCOME, MEETING REPORT & NOTICES

CALL TO WORSHIP: Psalm 100 (NIV)

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.

Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the Lord is God.

It is he who made us, and we are his,we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.

HYMN: All People that on Earth do Dwell (Tune: Old 100th)

All people that on earth do dwell, sing to the Lord with cheerful voice, Him serve with mirth, his praise forth tell, come ye before him and rejoice.

Know that the Lord is God indeed; without our aid he did us make;

we are his folk, he doth us feed, and for his sheep he doth us take.

O enter then his gates with praise, approach with joy his courts unto: praise, laud, and bless his name always, for it is seemly so to do.

For why? The Lord our God is good, his mercy is for ever sure;

his truth at all times firmly stood, and shall from age to age endure.

W Kethe (WOV10)

PRAYER OF CONFESSION, PRAISE & THANKSGIVING

BIBLE READINGS:

Acts 2: 42-47                                                   Tony Beasley

Philippians 3: 7-11 & 1 John 1: 1-7                 Warren Pettigrew

HYMN: Fill Thou My Life, O Lord My God (Tune: Richmond)

Fill thou my life, O Lord my God, in every part with praise,

that my whole being may proclaim thy being and thy ways.

Not for the lip of praise alone nor ev’n the praising heart I ask,

but for a life made up of praise in every part:

Praise in the common things of life, its goings out and in;

praise in each duty and each deed, however small and mean.

Fill every part of me with praise: let all my being speak of thee

and of thy love, O Lord, poor though I be and weak.

So shalt thou, Lord, receive from me the praise and glory due;

and so shall I begin on earth the song for ever new.

So shall no part of day and night from sacredness be free;

but all my life, in every step, be fellowship with thee. H Bonar (WOV515)

BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO MESSAGE

HYMN: The Church’s One Foundation (Tune: Aurelia)

The Church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord:

She is his new creation by water and the word;

from heaven he came and sought her to be his holy bride;

with his own blood he bought her, and for her life he died.

Called forth from every nation, yet one o’er all the earth,

her charter of salvation: one Lord, one faith, one birth.

One holy name she blesses, and shares one holy food,

as to one hope she presses, with every grace endued.

In toil and tribulation, and tumult of her war,

she waits the consummation of peace for evermore,

till with the vision glorious her longing eyes are blest,

and the great Church victorious shall be the Church at rest.

Yet she on earth has union with God the Three in One,

and mystical communion with those whose rest is one.

O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we, like them,

the meek and lowly, on high may dwell with thee. SJ Stone (CH4 739)

MESSAGE: Fellowship – the things we share in common

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION & THE LORD’S PRAYER

OFFERING:

HYMN: Blest be the Tie that Binds Our Hearts (Tune: Dennis)

Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love;

The fellowship of kindred hearts Is like to that above.

Before the Father’s throne we pour our ardent prayers;

Our fears, our hopes, our aims are one, our comforts and our cares.

We share our mutual woes, our mutual burdens bear,

And often for each other flows the sympathising tear.

When for awhile we part, this thought will sooth our pain,

That we shall still be joined in heart, and hope to meet again.

This glorious hope revives our courage by the way,

While each in expectation lives, and longs to see the day.

From sorrow, toil, and pain, and sin we shall be free;

And perfect love and friendship reign through all eternity.

(Baptist Hymn Book 355)

BENEDICTION: May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all, now and forever. Amen.
