Sunday 4th June
Pentecost Sunday –
The birth of a new community
For Christians, Pentecost is a holy day on which we commemorate the coming of the Holy Spirit amongst the early followers of Jesus. Before the events of the first Pentecost, which came 50 days after Jesus’ death and resurrection, there were followers of Jesus, but no movement that could be meaningfully called “the church.” Thus, from an historical point of view, Pentecost is the day on which the church was started. Pentecost is the church’s birthday.

“That we extend a call to the Rev Dugald Wilson to a 2/3rd time intentional ministry for a period of two years and that the leadership and congregation of St Martin’s commits itself to:
1. Discern more clearly the presence of God in our midst and who God calls us to be as a Christian community,
2. Strengthening our bonds of community, and
3. Discerning more clearly how we might encourage the life of God amongst others around us.
A 2/3rds stipend will be paid, with full standard allowances.”
